Patent Suits between Samsung and Apple Inc

According to the most recent report in NYTimes, Samsung Electronics filed an appeal to the U.S. court and force the Apple Inc to hand over its next-generation models both for the iPhone and iPad. So far, this has been the latest volley in the string of patent infringement suits between the two companies.

U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh has ordered Samsung Electronics to hand over Apple several models of Galaxy tablets and mobile phones and other products earlier this month. Recently, it is Samsung Electronics demanding for Apple Inc to give copies of their next-generation models.
Samsung argues the motion filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California stating that:
“It would put Samsung at a significant disadvantage in this litigation if the Court allowed Apple access to Samsung’s future products but prevented Samsung from gaining access to Apple’s future products so that it could prepare its defense.”
Last month, Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics claiming that the latter’s chain of mobile phones and tablets “slavishly” copied the iPhone and iPad. Samsung Electronics sued back claiming that Apple Inc has allegedly copied their Galaxy line of products.

Apple Inc was Samsung’s second-biggest customer in the past year mostly to obtain semiconductors which the iPhone maker’s claim Samsung focused on the Galaxy product line features like the screen icons.
Samsung refused to comment while Apple was not immediately reached for a comment on the recent development of the lawsuits against each other.

Apple and Samsung are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to litigations among phone makers and software companies. As competition rises in the market started by Apple with iPhone and iPad, litigations have fired up especially about who owns the patents utilized in tablets and smartphones.

Samsung has emerged as Apple’s fastest growing and strongest competitor in the booming market for tablet. They created models of tablets in three different sizes although they mostly kept at bay as Apple’s iPhone still rises in popularity.

The competition doesn’t end there considering that Samsung Galaxy product lines utilize the Android operating system of Google against the Apple’s mobile software.
