 X360Key is a USB loader device for the Xbox 360 made by the same people that brought you WiiKey and other popular Wii devices. The X360Key is exciting for a couple of reasons, the first being that you can now use external USB storage devices such as USB hard drives or USB flash drives to load legitimate backups of your original 360 titles that you own. The great thing about USB loading is that you no longer have to worry about scratched discs which we all know happens a lot especially if you have kids, also no longer will you have piles of game titles laying around everywhere as all your original titles can be stored on your USB media in the one safe & neat place. Another advantage is that you will extend the life of your DVD drive considerably, when a DVD drive dies in an Xbox 360 it can be a lot of work to have it replaced. At launch if you buy x360Key it will support all models of the older fat Xbox 360 consoles, they will add Xbox 360 Slim support in a coming firmware update.

The X360Key Xbox 360 USB loader is going to be a totally solderless install, but with saying that it is still going to require you to open up your console to connect the main board for the X360Key between your DVD drive & Motherboard using the Sata cable. This is not really a big deal and there are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to disassemble your Xbox 360 case and also we are sure the x360Key team will have a very detailed set of instructions on install up on their website. The X360Key will also come with a special and stylish USB control pad which is used to select the titles and navigate the features of the X360Key. This special USB remote also has the USB connections which is where you will connect your external USB devices to load from. It also comes with an OLED display and 3 simple navigation buttons. The USB control pad connects to the main board that you have installed inside the console and a cable will run from your console to the X360Key USB control pad.

How it works
x360key consists of 2 parts, a motherboard and a remote.

The motherboard connects to the SATA bus inside the Xbox 360, and sits between the drive and the Xbox 360 motherboard. x360key is a full-fledged computer system running embedded Linux. It is capable of many things such as
- Emulating the Xbox 360 DVD drive
- Reading USB hard drives and other USB media with various file systems
- Updating itself and other hardware from USB media
- Communicating with the remote and other external USB devices
- And a lot more! (embedded Web server and Wifi connectivity for exampe)

The remote is a simple yet stylish piece of hardware that features an OLED display and 3 buttons. It connects to the x360key motherboard via a high speed USB2 connection. It also has USB for connecting USB hard drives and other devices. The OLED and buttons are used to control various aspects of x360key. It is also used for browsing attached USB media devices and launching games.

The method behind the X360Key USB loader is also very similar to the Wode where it is an optical drive emulator, for those that don’t understand what that is it means the X360Key emulates the DVD drive inside your console, when running the Xbox 360 will see your external USB storage device as if it was the DVD drive inside your console. Buy X360Key is almost like a little computer of its own, it’s running a Linux Kernel running off a MicroSD memory card which is included as part of the product and is completely updateable using a USB device to serve it the new firmware. So when an update comes out for the X360Key all you will need to do is put it on your USB hard drive or a USB Flash drive and it will initiate the firmware update to the x360Key’s FPGA processor itself, they may also have updates for the Linux kernel that is stored on the MicroSD memory and this will be a simple process to update that as well. They have also built in a recovery mode for the X360Key in case at any stage the firmware on the FPGA chip corrupts or you have a bad flash trying to do a firmware update, you can simply enter the recovery mode and recover from a corrupted firmware or a bad flash firmware update.

The X360Key is going to receive a feature similar to the Wode Jukebox where the X360Key device itself will assist you in making the backups of your valuable original games onto your USB storage device for safe keeping, but unfortunately this will come later as a firmware update for the device pretty much the same as what happened with the Wode. In the meantime you will need to use the traditional method to make backups of your original titles you own using a Kreon drive and then copy your images over to your USB storage device for the X360Key to load.

So, wie gestern schon kurz versprochen stellen wir Euch heute einige exklusive Informationen zum x360Key von unserem langjährigem Freund TheArtificer, einem x360Key Entwickler in einem kurzen F.A.Q. Interview bereit.
Diese Informationen sind ModControl.Com exklusiv, eine Verbreitung der Infos darf mit korrektem Quelllink in diesen Thread aber stattfinden.

Wer steckt hinter dem x360Key?

- TA, einer der Projectfounder und Hauptentwickler des WODE (Wii Optical Drive Emulator) Modchips hat seine Arbeit am WODE Project letztes Jahr eingestellt und ist nun ein Teil des legendären Wiikey Teams. Gemeinsam arbeiten sie zusammen an dem x360key, einem Xbox 360 Drive Emulator der es erlaubt legale Sicherheitskopien (Backups) über ein USB Medium (USB Stick oder Festplatte) zu starten.


x360Key Drive Emulation?

-  Buy x360key ist die zweite Generation der Optical Drive Emulation Technologie mit einer neuen Emulation-Engine (die Xbox 360 funktioniert im Vergleich zur Wii Konsole komplett anders, das schließt das Hardwareinterface und die Drive Commands mit ein).

Warum wird die DVDKey Extracion Methode von Maximus implementiert?

- Da einige von der Konsole an das Laufwerke gesendete Kommandos bzw. Rückantworten des Laufwerks zur Konsole verschlüsselt sind brauchen wir den Key um den x360Key mit der Xbox 360 kommunizieren, also korrekt funktionieren zu lassen zu können.
Aus diesem Grund wird die automatische DVD Key Extraction von Maximus später in den x360Key implementiert.

In der x360key Software v1.00 muß der DVDKey noch manuell in eine Textdatei geschrieben und auf die SD Karte abgelegt werden.

Der x360Key hat zwei Modi?

Ja, es wird zwei Modi geben - Passthru & Emulation. Der Passthru Modus schaltet den x360key aus, der Modus Emulation, naja, Du hast das Video doch gesehen oder?


Warum wird der Xbox 360 Slim Support erst später hinzugefügt?

- Es gibt weitere Checks der Laufwerksfirmware, diese müssen wir länger und ausgiebiger testen um sicherzustellen das alles ordnugsgemäß und perfekt funktioniert.

(Kurze Anmerkung: Der Slim Support funktioniert schon, allerdings ist TA sehr sehr gründlich, aus dem Grund wird das Feature als kommend und nicht als vorhandenes Feature angekündigt, lest auch den "Warum funktionieren nicht alle Games?" Part weiter unten, das war schon beim WODE (bei seinen Ankündigungen, nicht die des Teams bzw. der Marketingabteilung) so, er kündigt ungern Sachen an die nicht 101% laufen, so ist TA halt, das ist für Kunden aber kein Nachteil, eher ein Vorteil).


Software, Softwareupdates und neue Features?

Der Linux Kernel ist 2.6.33, die brandneue GUI wurd mit QT (Embedded Linux — Qt - A cross-platform application and UI framework) erstellt. Wir haben die Software so entwickelt das es einfach sein wird einen simplen Built-in Webserver sowie Network Shares zu intergrieren (diese Features werden mittels Update nachgereicht).
Wir planen natürlich Updates wie zum Bespiel das 1.10 oder 1.20 welches die automatische DVD Key Extraction ermöglicht und außerdem wird natürlich der Xbox 360 Slim Support nachgereicht (erstmal für die 0255 und 9504 LiteON Lauferke). Mit den 0500 Hitachi Laufwerken beschäftigen wir uns später.
Außerdem wird es solange Updates geben die, wenn nötig, Fehler beheben und neue Features hinzufügen bis wir und unsere Kunden zufrieden sind.


Warum funktionieren nicht alles Games?

- Der Emulationscode der Firmware 1.00 ist komplett und wir testen wie verrückt um den Releasetermin Ende Juni einhalten zu können.
AP25 funktioniert und XGD3 wird wohl ebenfalls in V1.00 funktionieren - aber wir müssen weiter testen. Alles bisher getesteten Spiele funktionierten perfekt, (einschließlich der Games mit AP25), aber wir haben nicht alle vorhandenen Xbox 360 Spiele die es gibt bis jetzt testen können, das ist der Grund warum wir beschrieben haben, das fast alle Xbox 360 und Xbox 1 Spiele unterstützt werden.
Wenn wir alle Games getestet haben (das wird aber eine Weile dauern), dann werden wir Euch wissen lassen, das x360Key 100% kompatibel ist.

Anmerkung: Nur von der Xbox 360 unterstütze Xbox 1 Spiele funktionieren mit dem x360Key, das liegt nicht am x360Key sondern an der Abwärtskompatiblität der Xbox 1 Emulationsroutine der Xbox 360.


Ist ein dumpen der Games möglich?

- Nein, es ist nicht möglich die komplette Xbox 360 Spieledisk mit einem ungeflashten "Stock" Laufwerk auszulesen da Teile wie der Security Sector nicht einfach so auslesbar sind. Es wird also empfohlen die Backups mittels 0800 geflashtem (thx C4Eva) Xbox 360 oder einem Kreon DVD-Rom Laufwerk zu erstellen.

In x360key software v1.00 you have to add the dvdkey manually into a txt file on the sd card.

x360Key offers two modes?

Yes, it offers two modes - Passthru & Emulation. In Passthru the x360key is switched off, in Emulation, well, I think you saw the video?


Why will Xbox 360 slim drive support will be added later?

- There are additional checks on the drive firmware. We need more time to do that properly, of course it works, but we want to give you a perfect solution, so we have to do some more work to make sure everything is perfect.


Software, Softwareupdates and new features?

Why not all games running?

- The emulation code for 1.00 is complete now and we are testing like crazy for a release at the end of June. AP25 is working and we expect xgd3 will be working in V1.00 to - but that still needs testing. All tested games are working perfectly (including games with AP25), but not all released games have been tested by us, this is the reason why we state "most xbox 360 and xbox 1 games supported", when we have tested all of them (and this may take a while) then we will let you know that x360key is 100% compatible.


NOTE: Only supported xbox 1 games a working due to the xbox 360 emulation routine for xbox 1 games, so where is no possiblity to let all Xbox 1 games work.

Is game-dumping possible?

- It isnt possible to read the whole disc with a stock drive (part of the security sector for example), so for now we recommend that you dump your games directly with an 0800 flashed (thx C4Eva) xbox 360 or a kreon dvd-rom drive.

PS3 overtakes Xbox 360. Or does it? And will this trigger the next console war anyway?

Data from research firm Strategy Analytics suggests that PS3 has overtaken Xbox 360 in terms of global user base. What now?

I'm a little late with this one, but the figures are worth mulling over. US research firm Strategy Analytics has claimed that the "active installed base" of the PS3 has overtaken that of the Xbox 360. x360key Apparently, Sony's machine reached 43.4 million at the end of 2010 compared to 42.9m for the Microsoft console.

Wait a minute, you're probably thinking, Steve Ballmer announced back in January that Xbox 360 sales had reached 50 million units, and he's not a man to get publicly over-excited. Oh and Sony claimed in February that the PS3 was on 47.9 million. So has someone's adding up let them down? Should there be a 'see me' written in red ink at the bottom of the Strategy Analytics report?

Not really. The key is in that awkward phrase 'active installed base'. According to a blog post on the research company's website: "Our ownership models apply assumptions about device retirement life cycles to console sales data on a regional and global basis." Which would appear to mean that these figures aren't based on raw sales data, they're based on some sort of algorithmic alchemy that seeks to determine how many of the consoles are being played with, and how many are gathering dust inside cupboards, or propping open annoying fire doors. That's surely the market statistical equivalent of trying to track down and quantify the Higgs boson particle, and I'm willing to bet Strategy Analytics do not have a Large Hadron Collider in their cellar. Though, of course, their maths could well be much more scrupulous than the phrase 'assumptions about device retirement' suggests.

Meanwhile, however, a separate report from games retailer GameStop put the European figures at 14.7 million PS3 units to 13.7 million Xbox 360s. In the US, though, it's the other way around, with Xbox leading with a user base of 25.4m compared to PS3's 15.4m. And of course, the Wii is way ahead, with a worldwide base of 75.5m.

I'm wondering where this leaves the 360...

Nintendo is almost certain to announce a Wii follow-up at this year's E3, which won't be ground-breaking in terms of bleeding edge tech specs and raw processing grunt (Nintendo hardware never really is), but will surely be more powerful than the current hardware generation. This means Microsoft will be supporting the oldest architecture in the marketplace. Even if its capabilities have been extended by the launch of Kinect, this is possibly not a desirable position for the corporation.

Microsoft has insisted that Xbox 360 will have a ten-year lifespan, but of course, that doesn't mean we won't get a follow-up until 2015. Sony supported PS2 well into the PS3 lifecycle (even if Microsoft dropped the original Xbox rather quickly in its haste to embrace the HD era) – if this generation has proven anything it's that multiple console skus can now exist in harmony because the gaming demographic has widened so massively.

But then image is important, and development staff are no doubt itching to get their hands on a fresh generation of games equipment. We're already seeing high profile insiders like Mark Rein fantasising over where the Xbox lineage may go next, and Microsoft's recent job ads asking for staff, "responsible for defining and delivering next-generation console architectures from conception through implementation" left little to the imagination.

Was there a plan in place for 2013? And with PS3 gaining ground, will that plan be hastily re-drawn? Whether we want a generational refresh or not, might statistics, however ambiguous, be pushing us in that direction?

Team Xecuter: New Fake AP25 Patches – Still Unsafe For Xbox Live

We have already commented on the fake AP25 patches but recently there has been some false claims by the makers that needs to be addressed.

They incorrectly claim that their patches are safer than C4EVA’s. C4′s patches are made with responses from an original disc which will always be safer than the fakes.

There have been several types of fake patches in a continued failed attempt to produce “safe” or “full stealth” patches as they put it. The fake patches are made from data in the dae.bin file and ISOs of an unverified origin.

1) The first version of these fake patches used hardcoded angles with blank response data.
Result: Unsafe for Live.

2) The second version continued to use hardcoded angles with added response data from ISOs of unknown origin.
Result: Still unsafe for Live.

3) The third version has an option to apply random jitter to the hardcoded angles using some software.
Result: Still unsafe for Live.

Each supposed “improvement” is fruitless because they are not obtaining responses from an original disc. Any future releases will never be safe as long as they are based on data sources other than the original disc.

A correct response can only be obtained with an original disc which is how C4EVA has always done it. A public method is in development which will allow you to extract the correct responses from original discs with a new 0800 FW.

These fake releases are made for you without any regard whatsoever for the safety of your consoles and XBL account. Every official fw of patch ever released is done so after extensive testing to be as sure as possible that they would function fully using the XBL network.

Do not ever trust an unofficial fw or an unofficial patch. These people do not use or understand the methods implemented by C4E and any counter claim they make now and in the future should not be believed in any way shape or form. remember – they DO NOT CARE about the safety of your console and XBL account – they only care to have their name in lights with some software release that is both dangerous and irresponsible to the Xbox firmware community.

Product overview
The x360Key is a new product from the famous Wiikey Team. Famous for the most popular line of Wii modchips, they dominated the market right up until a device called the WODE came out. The WODE has been an extremly successful product becuase its bassically a hardware hack that allows you to run games from a harddrive, insteaed of your original disc. Instead of the Wiikey team bringing out the same product, they have been concentrating for over a year on doing the exact same thing for the xbox 360, and here it is!

How does it work?

The x360Key is an Xbox 360 drive emulator. What this means, is that when  you load a game via the x360key the xbox actually thinks the game is loading via disc. The 360 thinks the drive is ejecting, a disc is being inserted, the tray closes, the disc spins up, and then loads. Of course non of this is actually happening, its all via emulation, and the data is coming directly from your harddrive!

The x360key is based of Linux, just like the WODE was. This means that it is compatible with multiple filesystems, but more importantly, is that the feature list can grow and grow and grow. Initially the device will only be made to work with the "PHAT" xboxs and not the Slim. The Slim xbox is a little harder to hack, but they plan on releasing a firmware update shortly after the device comes out to make it compatilbe.

How do you install it?
The x360key team have done everything they can to make this device ready to install. Its a solderless installation! The problem with xbox 360 drives is that they are locked to the console they are in via a serial number.  This means that you cannot just swap DVD drives over without first getting the key out the original drive, and putting it in the replacemetn drive. So you will need to input for key into the x360key for it to properly emulate the drive. Now this would normally be a problem for most people, as expensive flashing tools are needed to extract the key from drives, for examble, the maximus lizard is $123 on our website. The great news is that the x360key will be able to extract the key out of every compatible drive for you! This means that you are in the installer and you have the tools to do everything yourself.

• Upgradable WITHOUT opening the console, the updates are via USB which means there is no need to consistantly get your xbox reflashed by professionals.
• Fasting loading times via USB
• Future features like a web control panel will allow you to change games without getting up off your lazy ass ;)
• No or Less wear and tear on your DVD drives. Everyone that has had a 360 for a while knows that 360 DVD drives aren't the best, and maybe people and up getting faulty lasers after a couple of years. Drive replacements cost about $100. This device will ensure that having a faulty drive is pretty much impossible becuase....you aren't using it anymore!
• Future updates will also include disc ripping, which is an amazing feature that will allow you to backup your games directly to harddrive. 
• An alternative to c4eva....For a LONG time c4eva has an a fantastic job at making firmwares for flashing DVD drives. The only problem is that the market is very much reliant on his work. Future DVD drives may get hacked by x360key team before c4eva.

Disadvantages:

• The whole "xbox live" thing is a bit up in the air at the moment. Its not known whether the device will be safe or not for xbox live.  DVD drive flashers have been safe from January 2010 onwards, however it seems more like microsoft has decided not to ban people, more then undetectable firmware. This is an unknown, only MicroSoft knows whats happening!
• The initial cost outlay, compared to drive flashing is more. Personally I prefer buying something thats more expensive that I know will not have any additional costs, then to buy something for $60, and then pay $30 twice a year, and $2~$3 every time I want to burn a disc, and $80 for a Kreon drive or 0800 drive to rip my originals....do the math!

The X360Key is the very first USB Loader device for the Xbox 360, innovative & solderless install.

The X360Key is a USB loader device for the Xbox 360 made by the same people that brought you WiiKey and other popular Wii devices. The X360Key is exciting for a couple of reasons, the first being that you can now use external USB storage devices such as USB hard drives or USB flash drives to load legitimate backups of your original 360 titles that you own. The great thing about USB loading is that you no longer have to worry about scratched discs which we all know happens a lot especially if you have kids, also no longer will you have piles of game titles laying around everywhere as all your original titles can be stored on your USB media in the one safe & neat place. Another advantage is that you will extend the life of your DVD drive considerably, when a DVD drive dies in an Xbox 360 it can be a lot of work to have it replaced. At launch if you buy X360Key it will support all models of the older fat Xbox 360 consoles, they will add Xbox 360 Slim support in a coming firmware update.



The X360Key Xbox 360 USB loader is going to be a totally solderless install, but with saying that it is still going to require you to open up your console to connect the main board for the X360Key between your DVD drive & Motherboard using the Sata cable. This is not really a big deal and there are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to disassemble your Xbox 360 case and also we are sure the X360Key team will have a very detailed set of instructions on install up on their website. The X360Key will also come with a special and stylish USB control pad which is used to select the titles and navigate the features of the X360Key. This special USB remote also has the USB connections which is where you will connect your external USB devices to load from. It also comes with an OLED display and 3 simple navigation buttons. The USB control pad connects to the main board that you have installed inside the console and a cable will run from your console to the X360Key USB control pad.

The method behind the X360Key USB loader is also very similar to the Wode where it is an optical drive emulator, for those that don’t understand what that is it means the X360Key emulates the DVD drive inside your console, when running the Xbox 360 will see your external USB storage device as if it was the DVD drive inside your console. The X360Key is almost like a little computer of its own, it’s running a Linux Kernel running off a MicroSD memory card which is included as part of the product and is completely updateable using a USB device to serve it the new firmware. So when an update comes out for the X360Key all you will need to do is put it on your USB hard drive or a USB Flash drive and it will initiate the firmware update to the x360Key’s FPGA processor itself, they may also have updates for the Linux kernel that is stored on the MicroSD memory and this will be a simple process to update that as well. They have also built in a recovery mode for the X360Key in case at any stage the firmware on the FPGA chip corrupts or you have a bad flash trying to do a firmware update, you can simply enter the recovery mode and recover from a corrupted firmware or a bad flash firmware update.

The X360Key is going to receive a feature similar to the Wode Jukebox where the X360Key device itself will assist you in making the backups of your valuable original games onto your USB storage device for safe keeping, but unfortunately this will come later as a firmware update for the device pretty much the same as what happened with the Wode. In the meantime you will need to use the traditional method to make backups of your original titles you own using a Kreon drive and then copy your images over to your USB storage device for the X360Key to load.

Microsoft issues statement regarding PSN outage

A Microsoft representative has issued a statement to Electronic Theatre regarding the ongoing PSN issues, which are plaguing users worldwide.
