My character is certainly in for an awkward moment. I dated Liara in the first game, then switched over to Miranda for Mass Effect 2, only to cheat on Miranda and get back together with Liara. It looks like the Reapers won't be Shepard’s only problem in my case. At least I don’t have to worry about adding future love interests into the mix.

Mass Effect 3 Will Not Introduce New Love Interests
Any romance that might occur in Mass Effect 3 will be based on your previous relationships in the first two games. In an interview with PC Gamer, the executive producer of the Mass Effect series, Casey Hudson, revealed that “In this one [Mass Effect 3], we don’t really have new characters that are part of the romance stuff.” Rather, Mass Effect 3 relies on your past relationships. The game will take into account your love interest from Mass Effect 1, whether you stayed true to them in Mass Effect 2, whether you cheated on them in Mass Effect 2, or if your first love interest was introduced in Mass Effect 2. Different scenarios will play out depending on your past actions.
