We had a feeling that an iPhone 5 with a ‘few upgrades’ (as many analysts put it) definitely wouldn’t have anything dramatically new, like an e-wallet.
However, Wall Street research firm Bernstein; the company that released the statement today, says that we shouldn’t rule it out for the sixth-generation iPhone.
This shuts down many rumours that have come and gone in the past couple months pointing that Apple has been researching near-field technology that would essentially turn the iPhone 5 into a secure credit card.
Many people thought that the iPhone 5 would inevitably feature an NFC chip as Apple had filed a handful of patents and listed job positions stating that they were looking for ‘experts in mobile payment software’ just a couple months ago. Chances are that they’re building this all towards a sixth-generation iPhone that many analysts believe will be coming out in early 2012.
Again, we’ve learned not to take any reports as absolute facts, but chances are that an iPhone 5 with a ‘few upgrades’ as we expect it to be, definitely wouldn’t feature something that new. At least, in our opinion.

Report: Bernstein confirms unlikeliness of an iPhone 5 with NFC technology
Even the New York Times reported a couple months ago that an iPhone 5 featuring an NFC chip (that would allow the iPhone 5 to be used as a payment tool) was going to happen, but that just goes to show how unpredictable Apple is even when a source as reputable as the NYT reports it.Many people thought that the iPhone 5 would inevitably feature an NFC chip as Apple had filed a handful of patents and listed job positions stating that they were looking for ‘experts in mobile payment software’ just a couple months ago.
