• First thing to try is turning your console off and leaving for about an hour. After this time has passed turn your console back on. This should solve the problem for now but there may be other issues that will cause the red ring of death to reoccur.
• Check where your Xbox 360 is stored. If it is in an entertainment unit with doors this can cause overheating. So if you are looking to keep your Xbox running smoothly and cool it is advisable to play with the doors open. Or ideally try moving your console on to an open shelf. Also some people have their console on a bookshelf wedge in with books and there is very little air getting into the Xbox, so be aware of where you set up your Xbox 360.
• To cool your Xbox down try positioning it next to an air conditioning unit, try and line it up so the air will pass through the vents on the console. If you have an a/c unit running already it may as well cool your Xbox down too.
• If you have a laptop cooling pad try sitting the Xbox on it for about half an hour before playing again. This should sufficiently cool down the console for you to begin playing.• You may find that your Xbox is overheating more and more; this is a sign that the fan is not as good as it used to be. It can be a god idea to purchase an external fan for your console. These are readily available at most online game stores. The nice thing about these types of fans is that they fit to your machine without looking to awkward. Installing an extra fan will also help to cool your Xbox down quickly and safely.
