nds news: Nintendo releases DSi FW 1.4.1/1.4.2 – Blocks current flashcards
Last year in August Nintendo released a new 1.4 update to their firmware that blocked flash cards for the first time. It took only a few weeks for the developers to create a workaround, and it’s been all quite ever since. gamezway.com – buy best dsi flash card lowest price .This latest firmware comes as a bit of a surprise since Nintendo went so long without any acknowledgement of the 1.4 workarounds.
Savvy users will recall what happened with the 1.3 to 1.4 update and hopefully, ignore the update. There wasn’t much to be said about this latest firmware: “September 7th, 2010 Nintendo DSi Menu Ver 1.4.1U This update provides behind-the-scenes improvements to system performance.” The DSi wasn’t alone in the update frenzy, as the Wii also got hit with a big update that removed all homebrew from customized systems. This is following on Sony’s recent updates that accomplished similar goals. Nintendo is coming up with big releases and big announcements with the 3DS around the corner and Pokemon Black and White imminent, not to mention the Christmas season.
This was probably an endeavor for them to gain some lost ground before pushing forward. Apparently the new update came out on the 7th of Sept, but it took about a day for people to realize. It’s not long after that and Nintendo has released a SECOND update on top of it from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2. Not many details are know but it is confirmed that it blocks the vast majority of cards including the Acekard 2i, M3i Zero, R4i, iEdge and the EZFlash Vi. It’s important to remember that DSi firmware updates are definitely optional, and only truly required for heavy online games like Phantasy Star and the DSiWare shop. For now avoid the update, and maintain use of your current setups. We’re uncertain of how soon this update will be circumvented, but there appears to be NO benefit to updating. There are no performance enhancements, compatibility improvements, or new features. It is only designed to block flash cards from functioning. Please allow the developers time to deal with the problem and find a fix, although we’re tempted to say just ignore it and carry on as usual.
